The German Federal Supreme Court grants extensive right to information against internet provider

In a decision of April 19, 2012 (I ZB 80/11) the German Federal Supreme Court concluded that copy right owners have a right to information concerning name and address of the user of an IP-address which has contributed in an unauthorized manner to an online file-sharing system by providing a copyright protected opus. The right to information does not depend on the question whether the copyright violation is done on a commercial basis or not.
