Expertise

Matthias has been with Grünecker since 2009. He supports companies in building national and international patent portfolios in mechanical and plant engineering.

Matthias specialises in drafting practice-oriented, priority-based German and European patent applications, based on which he develops international patents for his clients. Throughout this process, he places particular emphasis on fostering a direct and collaborative dialogue with inventors and patent managers.

His client base primarily includes medium-sized companies and enterprises based in Germany, whose innovative strength has been increasingly flanked by patents for years.

He regularly enforces his clients’ rights in bilateral proceedings before the German Patent Office, the German Federal Patent Court and the European Patent Office.

This primarily involves the enforcement and defence of patents Matthias has brought to grant. He has been an authorised representative before the Unified Patent Court since 2023.

Matthias specialises in preparing expert opinions on the validity of patents already granted and on risk assessment regarding possible infringements of intellectual property rights by third parties. He also supports his clients in developing strategies to circumvent relevant intellectual property rights.

In his leisure time, Matthias enjoys exercising with his two children, gardening and reading.
