Expertise
Rainer Bertram practises patent law and specialises in drafting new applications and conducting examination proceedings up to grant before the DPMA, the EPO and its Boards of Appeal, the WIPO, the Federal Patent Court, and the Federal Supreme Court.
In close cooperation with colleagues abroad, he also handles the acquisition of worldwide patent protection, including coordinating parallel proceedings in various countries. He represents clients in opposition and nullity proceedings in disputes concerning the legal status of patents and is also experienced in appearing before appellate courts in this context.
In the field of infringement, his practice includes advice and expert opinions on patent infringement issues, as well as participation in patent infringement proceedings.
Another significant area of focus is design protection rights. Here, Rainer focuses particularly on needs-based new design applications and global design application strategies for robust and protection-optimised design portfolios for internationally active clients. Accordingly, he has extensive experience in different IP requirements for designs worldwide. His vast experience is evident in the high level of design filing activity at the DPMA, the EUIPO, and the WIPO, which Rainer handles until registration.
In design disputes, he represents clients in nullity proceedings before the DPMA and the EUIPO and their appeal instances, provides expert opinions in the run-up to imminent infringements and participates in design infringement proceedings.
Rainer has organised training groups for patent attorney candidates for Bavaria for the Chamber of Patent Attorneys for many years and is still leading training courses.
He is a member of FICIPI and GRUR.
