With the appointment of three Associate Partners at its Munich office, Grünecker further strengthens its expertise in the areas of patent and trademark law. Cornelia Schmitt, Yilin Jin and Jeg Korukottu have a wide range of expertise and continue to expand Grünecker’s global reach.

Yilin Jin is a German and European Patent Attorney. He represents and advises Asian and European companies ranging from Fortune 500 companies to early stage start-ups. In addition to more than ten years of experience in IP prosecution and opposition proceedings, he is one of the few Chinese-speaking German patent attorneys with experience in German nullity and cross-border infringement proceedings. Due to his multicultural background, he manages to expand the firm’s presence on the Asian market significantly. His clients value not only his experience in litigation, freedom-to-operate searches, and settlement negotiations, but also his industry knowledge in the areas of telecommunications, medical technology, renewable energy, and e-commerce. Yilin Jin is passionate about building bridges between cultures, law and technology, products and markets and, above all, between people: “I enjoy evaluating technical and legal issues in an entrepreneurial context with my team, developing practical approaches to solutions together with colleagues and clients, and thus building long-term relationships based on trust.”

Jeg Korukottu is a U.K. Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. With a master’s degree in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and a doctoral degree from Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, his technical specialization is wide-ranging and multidisciplinary in the fields of physics, biophysics, and mechanics. He is experienced in all aspects of IP lifecycle, including patent prosecution, oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office, and the UK Intellectual Property Office. He also advises on patent enforcement, risk assessment, validity and infringement matters. Jeg Korukottu is involved with various international IP organizations and bar associations and relishes experiencing diverse perspectives. For him, it is not only about technical/legal expertise, but also about making a positive difference to those around him, taking proactive action with a relaxed and pragmatic mind-set: “It is important to me to bring in a personalized approach in combining both technical and legal expertise, and to provide well-balanced advice to strengthen my clients’ IP portfolios.”

Cornelia Schmitt has been working as an attorney-at-law in the field of intellectual property law for more than 20 years. She advises companies in all areas of trademark law, from strategic advice on the development and protection of trademarks and corporate identifiers to the enforcement of trademark rights in and out of court. She has a particular focus on the protection and enforcement of well-known trademarks. She regularly represents clients before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the German civil courts, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the European Court in Luxembourg (ECJ). She has particular experience in strategic advice, prosecution and enforcement of the European trademark rights of large international technology companies. For Cornelia Schmitt, the individual view of the client’s needs is always decisive when providing advice: “Even though I enjoy conducting legal proceedings, my focus is always on finding a commercially sensible solution for clients.”

With the appointment of Cornelia Schmitt, Yilin Jin and Jeg Korukottu as Associate Partners, Grünecker continues its focus on the promotion and development of its own talent. In addition, the firm manages to continue to strengthen its international expertise and to expand its consulting competence in important markets.
